A little about us

Drug Free Cecil is a super coalition, comprised of all youth substance prevention coalitions/task forces in Cecil County, and has been actively working over the past 11 years to address and reduce youth substance use in the community. As a result of these combined efforts, student-led prevention clubs are now operating in all 5 high schools and 2 middle schools. These groups have developed public service announcements, engaged in a variety of prevention activities and have provided peer to peer education.

The coalitions leverage their resources to support the Drug Free Cecil Youth Coalition (DFCYC). The DFCYC is a division of Youth Empowerment Source, the largest youth serving agency in Cecil County. Students in grades 9-12 can join the DFCYC Student Leadership Program. These 40 student leaders meet monthly for leadership investment and prevention training. They use these lessons to lead their school based prevention clubs, engaging more than 4,000 students annually in prevention activities.

The Drug Free Cecil Youth Coalition has been recognized by The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and SAMHSA as one of the premier youth coalitions in the nation. The collaboration of Drug Free Cecil is proven, with local high school youth substance use trending down in several areas.
